WHAT WE STAND FOR

We craft garden and forestry tools with purpose, pride, and respect for the work they’re meant to do. Our passion comes from time spent outdoors, working the land, caring for trees, and staying connected to nature. That experience shapes every tool we make.

We use only premium materials and modern manufacturing techniques to deliver tools you can rely on for exceptional performance and long-term durability. We listen closely to our customers and continually refine our tools based on real-world use. As a fourth-generation, family-owned company, craftsmanship, trust, and community are at the core of everything we do.

Our Heritage

Since 1919

In 1919, after returning from the First World War, the young blacksmith Josef Schmitt (26.11.1896 – 21.06.1976) began assisting his father, Philipp Schmitt (26.01.1859 – 28.11.1928), a skilled blacksmith, in the construction of a new forge.

In 1921, Josef Schmitt received his master craftsman’s certificate from the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and one year later he opened the “Hammerwerk Gebrüder Schmitt” together with his brother Otto. Production soon expanded to include axes, hatchets, and other tools. In the 1930s, the “ADLER” brand was introduced.

Today, Josef’s great-grandson Tobias Schmitt leads the company in its fourth generation. Over more than 100 years, the small village workshop has grown into an international specialist in forged forestry tools and garden equipment.

Waghäusel, Germany

Over the past decades, Adler has continued to invest in modern, responsible manufacturing. Key milestones include the opening of our water-based paint facility in 2004 and the installation of an automatic drying kiln in 2006. Wood waste from our production process is reused to generate up to 700 kW of energy - helping power our factory efficiently and sustainably.

Today, the newest generation of the Schmitt family is focused on modernizing our operations to meet state-of-the-art production and environmental standards, while staying true to the heritage and craftsmanship that define Adler.

Our factory is located in Waghäusel, Germany, in the Baden-Württemberg region, near the Rhine River and just south of Heidelberg.
